Meet Our New Four-Legged Friend

We are delighted to introduce the newest (and furriest) member of the Colinton Care Home team: Maggie!

Maggie is a playful and affectionate Corgi pup who belongs to our Home Manager Liz, and she will be visiting Colinton regularly. Although she may be small, her impact has already been enormous. From the moment she first trotted through our doors, her cheerful nature and wagging tail have brought smiles to residents and staff alike.

We are always looking for meaningful ways to enhance wellbeing and enrich daily life and Maggie’s visits are proving to be a wonderful addition. Pet therapy is widely recognised for its many benefits and we are already seeing first-hand the positive difference Maggie is making to our community.

Her presence naturally encourages gentle movement, whether that's walking a little further down the corridor to greet her or playing with her favourite toy. These small but significant moments of physical activity help support mobility, coordination and confidence in a relaxed and enjoyable way.

Just as importantly, Maggie has become a wonderful catalyst for socialisation. Residents gather together to watch and chat about her playful antics and share stories of their own beloved pets. For some, Maggie has sparked treasured memories of family dogs, childhood companions and long country walks, opening the door to reminiscence and meaningful storytelling.

These shared memories often lead to wider conversations, strengthening friendships and encouraging connections between residents. Maggie has a remarkable ability to bring people together, creating a warm and inclusive atmosphere wherever she goes.

For residents living with dementia, Maggie’s calm and affectionate nature offers particular reassurance. The simple act of stroking her soft fur can be soothing, helping to reduce anxiety and promote a sense of wellbeing. Her predictable, friendly presence provides comfort and often encourages communication, even for those who may otherwise be quiet.

Everyone is very welcome to pop along to Liz’s office to say hello and give Maggie a gentle pat when she is in. These informal visits are fast becoming a highlight of the week, with many residents asking when she will be back. Maggie is quickly becoming a much-loved part of daily life here at Colinton. We are so pleased to see the happiness she brings and the positive impact she is already within our home.

We are certain she will continue to brighten many days to come, one wagging tail at a time. If you’d like to see the magic of Colinton Care Home for yourself, please arrange a home tour today. We can’t wait to meet you.
