Christmas Cheer and Festive Sparkles
As December begins, the magic of Christmas has well and truly arrived at Colinton Care Home, with residents embracing the festive spirit through our fun and creative activities. From hand-decorated baubles to beautifully homemade advent calendars, our home is now twinkling with the joy of the season.
In the run-up to December, our residents took part in a special arts and crafts session where they designed their own personalised Christmas baubles. Using clear ornaments, a huge selection of festive bits and bobs, and lots of imagination, residents filled each bauble with miniature trees, sparkly snow, colourful pom-poms, and added their names to create a personalised decoration. Seeing the pride on their faces as they admired their work was a lovely reminder of how meaningful these moments are. The finished baubles now sit proudly on a small tabletop Christmas tree, and each one is a lovely reflection of the person who created it.
Adding to the festive feel throughout the home, staff worked together to create their very own advent calendars for each unit. Rather than buying shop-bought ones, we decided to make this a shared project – one that celebrated the individuality of our community. Each calendar is hand-coloured with bright Christmas themes, from reindeers and baubles to cheery gnomes and twinkling trees. Behind each door is a photo of one of our residents, giving everyone the joy of seeing a familiar, friendly face each day in the countdown to Christmas.
Our home has also been transformed with the addition of plenty of sparkling decorations including a beautifully decorated Christmas tree, adorned in elegant silver ornaments and soft white lights. The glow of the tree, along with laughter and chatter from our residents, has created a wonderfully cosy and uplifting atmosphere. These activities are more than just festive fun, they help spark memories, encourage connection, and offer meaningful ways to express creativity. The sense of achievement and togetherness that comes from crafting something by hand is a lovely way to start the season.
